Our team

Mike K., Behavior Intervention specialist

I have been working as a therapist, counselor, and behaviorist for approaching 30 years. Having worked with people of all ages, backgrounds, developmental levels, and abilities, I have found serving in this capacity a huge blessing. With graduate degrees in several areas and years of anecdotal experience, I am a therapist who uses a holistic approach to wellness. Factors such as sleep, nutrition, exercise, hydration, light, and other variables often profoundly shape the treatment environment. Using a mix of Cognitive Behavioral, Cognitive Affective, Direct Instruction, Scripting, Discrete Trial, Therapeutic Games, and other methods has had a profound impact on thoughts, feelings, behaviors, perspectives, expectations, and the quality of relationships. Understanding that “person plus environment” always equals the outcome is essential for positive influence.

Change over time is important to all treatment plan goals. I believe success is measured by a few simple principles. How quickly does a one-hour session pass for those in the meeting? How eager are people to see me for sessions? How do people feel when participating in treatment time? I learned some years ago that success with positive influence has as much to do with “how that person feels when they spend time with you” as with the specific strategies from moment to moment. Life is a game of influence. The greatest impact happens when a person feels safe, calm, liked, and appreciated during sessions.

What I love most about being a behavioral therapist in this field is that feelings, needs, thoughts, and behaviors are rarely permanent, whether good or bad. Understanding how to control one's thoughts, recognize typical emotional-behavioral chains, and properly utilize reinforcement to shape or alter direction means “nothing is permanent”.

As I write this, I have been with my Bride for 10,197 days. I measure life in days because living in the moment is so important. We have 3 young men (children), 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 goats, and a flock of chickens. My heart seeks the sand and the ocean. Sharing a little about me seems quite appropriate.

Sara T., LMSW-LP

I have extensive experience working with people throughout my career. I moved to Buffalo in 2025. For about 8 years, I mentored an individual with autism and special needs, focusing on communication, social skills, coping strategies, and emotional expression. I babysat three children for nearly 10 years, helping them develop into the wonderful people they are today. I also worked as a direct care staff for individuals with disabilities, mental health issues, and conduct disorders. After earning my bachelor's degree, I became a case planner for juvenile defenders, collaborating with individuals and families to reintegrate into their communities. I completed my master's degree at the end of 2024 and am preparing for my exam next month (MSW). I also have a limited permit and am scheduling my licensing exam.

  • Areas of Expertise: Autism and play therapy.
  • Service delivery methods: In-person and Telehealth sessions.
  • Approach to Care: prioritize a holistic, person-centered, and strengths-based model, focusing on the individual’s environment, rights, and empowerment to foster wellbeing. Building trusting, empathetic      therapeutic relationships, utilizing active listening, and providing      advocacy, crisis intervention, and resources to promote self-determination.

I have a 6-year-old Boston terrier dog. I love to read and craft.

April G, MA

Hi everyone! My name is April G. I'm eager to potentially be your therapist. With nearly 15 years in the field and a passion for psychology, I've worked in homes, clinics, school settings, and via telehealth.

My experience includes Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

I focus on building a strong, trust-based relationship by understanding my patients deeply and tailoring strategies to their needs and personalities.

Therapy is patient-driven, meaning clients set their goals and determine the pace. For minors, goals align with parent concerns and developmental needs. I am flexible, receptive to feedback, and collaborate with the patient's support system to gain diverse perspectives.

Outside of work, I love spending time with loved ones, especially my kids. I have two adult daughters, 17-year-old twin boys, and a lively 4-year-old Yorkie. My kids call me nerdy because I love reading, researching, and I have a fondness for superheroes and sci-fi, rooted in my 90s childhood. I enjoy traveling, trying new activities, arts and crafts, cooking, and surprisingly, cleaning, which I find therapeutic.

Throughout my career, I’ve had many success stories. One memorable case involved a high school patient with fears impacting his daily life and executive functioning. His previous psychologist had discharged him, deeming further help unnecessary. I worked with him and his parents for several years, and they made remarkable progress. We discharged him after he achieved his goals and improved his quality of life. Years later, his mother shared an update on social media: he had graduated from high school, was attending college, working part-time, commuting, working on his driver's license, and managing daily chores. I appreciated the update and congratulated the family. His success was truly a team effort, with his parents supporting his outside therapy. This story reminds me why I do this work.
