After raising four children and selling her farm, Katie earned her master’s degree in social work
(MSW) from the University of Southern California (USC). She spent two years providing mental
health therapy for a tribal program in Northern Minnesota before returning to New York and
completing her doctorate in social work (DSW).
Katie is excited to return to clinical social work practice in her home community of Tompkins
County, NY. Katie strives to ensure that people with diverse needs gain access to the
comprehensive services necessary to live their best lives. She enjoys supporting individuals and
groups as they identify and use their strengths, talents, and experiences to enhance well-being.
Areas of focus: Katie works with individuals of any age, sex, and gender. Her primary
experience is in supporting individuals who are struggling with mental health and substance use.
She has special training to support caregivers and children under five using the Diagnostic
Classification of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders of Infancy and Early Childhood
(DC: 0-5), and particular experience with maternal substance use and infants experiencing
neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS). She also has experience with the unique needs of the
aging population and is a Clinical Fellow in Trauma-Informed Palliative Care through the Ithaca
College Gerontology Institute.

violence, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship issues, trauma, women's issues, workplace
Treatment Approach: Katie utilizes person-centered approaches, vigorously promoting
self-determination and culturally-based, trauma-informed responses. She is certified in Cognitive
Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement
Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy
(REBT). During the therapeutic process, she utilizes a combination of treatments that are tailored
to meet the communication and reasoning skills of each person.
